1990–1992 regular Action Packed

The 1990 regular issue contains 280 cards; 1991 and 1992 each expand to 290. This is a useful starting boundary: Rookie Update and All-Madden cards do not fill spaces in those annual base checklists.

The 1992 Mint parallel has 288 cards, omitting base numbers 289 and 290, and is numbered to 500. A collector can complete Mint without those two numbers; an ordinary 1992 base set still needs them. Raised printing makes dents, flattened areas and foil scuffs important condition features.

1993–1997 regular Action Packed

The annual checklist contracts from 222 cards in 1993 to 198 in 1994, then 126 in both 1995 and 1996. The 1997 database checklist contains 125 cards. A set’s changing size is one reason to count against the precise year instead of treating any large Action Packed lot as complete.

The 1995 Quick Silver parallel sits beside separate Armed Forces and Rocket Man inserts. In 1997, Gold Impressions, First Impressions and Extra Points names identify additional collecting branches. Preserve the subtitle: the familiar embossed appearance does not make every card part of the base run.

1990–1994 All-Madden

The 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993 and 1994 All-Madden issues form a separate themed collection. The year of the card issue and the season named by an All-Madden selection can be different. Use the cataloged issue year rather than correcting a slab from the award wording alone.

1990–1992 Rookie Update

Rookie Update is separate from the corresponding regular set. The 1990 issue includes the pictured Emmitt Smith #34; the 1991 update has 84 cards and includes Brett Favre. The requested 1992 update is another independent checklist. For a rookie-year collection, a regular card, All-Madden appearance and Rookie Update card occupy different slots.

The request’s “1991 Rookie Updte” is normalized to Rookie Update. Search that full subtitle to avoid ordinary 1991 Action Packed listings.

1993–1995 Monday Night Football and 1995 Rookies & Stars

Monday Night Football spans the three requested years, while 1995 Rookies & Stars is its own checklist. Preserve those subtitles in every search. A complete Action Packed annual base set does not automatically include either companion line.

Protect the relief and finish

Use holders that accommodate the actual thickness without compressing the raised image. Foil scratches, edge splitting and pressure marks deserve separate notes in a condition report. Compare the same product and finish instead of assuming that every gold-colored detail represents a scarce parallel.
