1992 Finest: a distinct 44-card product
The first requested Finest issue uses Topps’ Poly-tech process and contains 44 cards. It is a separate collecting proposition from the later chromium run. A glossy surface by itself does not make a 1992 card a Refractor; use the correct checklist and printing technology.
1994 Finest and 1995 Finest
The 1994 and 1995 chromium issues bring the reflective surfaces associated with the Finest name. Check a claimed Refractor against the proper year’s identifiers and optical appearance. A bright photograph can make an ordinary card look more reflective than it is.
1996 Finest
This year introduces a tiered checklist: bronze, silver and gold groupings form the 359-card issue. A gold-tier base card and a Refractor are different classifications. Record tier and parallel separately; otherwise two cards with the same player can be incorrectly compared.
1997 Finest, 1998 Finest and 1999 Finest
The late-1990s issues continue the premium chromium identity. Peyton Manning and Randy Moss make 1998 a familiar rookie-year reference, but set structure must be checked annually. Protective film, where originally applied, is a condition and presentation attribute that should be disclosed rather than quietly removed.
2000–2004 Finest
The early 2000s products change the relationship between ordinary cards and premium components. In 2000, serial-numbered rookies and the Inherent Fire and Gems subsets require a more detailed inventory than a veteran-only checklist. The 2001 issue has separate Autographs, Moments Relics, Rookie Premiere Jerseys and Stadium Throwback Relics lines.
For 2002, the catalog divides the issue into 62 regular veterans, 14 veteran jersey cards, 40 rookies and 22 autographed rookies. In 2003, the 149-card checklist comprises 60 veterans, 40 rookies, 18 jersey cards and 31 rookie autographs. Decide whether “complete” includes every premium-numbered portion before buying a purported set.
The 2004 checklist runs through #134: veteran relics occupy #101–107, followed by rookie autographs. Some rookie autographs are numbered to 399 and others to 999, so an autograph count alone is not a reliable measure of the difficulty of completion.
2005–2009 Finest
The 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 products add further opportunities for rookie, autograph and parallel collections. A signed card’s authentication language and a card’s numerical grade are different pieces of information. Identify whether the signature is manufacturer-certified and which exact parallel carries it.
2010–2013 Finest
For 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013, define whether your goal is base cards, numbered colors or autograph/memorabilia subsets. Chrome surface lines, dimples and edge defects deserve close images. Never polish a card to improve its reflectivity; preservation should leave the original surface intact.
