1991 Upper Deck

The football debut contains 700 cards: numbers 1–500 form the first series and 501–700 the high-number series. Star Rookies, team checklists and other subsets give collectors several organizing options. A low-series box or partial set does not automatically cover the entire year.

1992 Upper Deck and 1993 Upper Deck

The next two annual sets continue the photographic approach. Keep special inserts and later company products such as SP distinct from base Upper Deck. A card’s back and complete set name are necessary when a familiar front photograph appears in a loosely described lot.

1994 Upper Deck through 1997 Upper Deck

The 1994 annual issue belongs to an expanding company lineup, so distinguish Upper Deck from Collector’s Choice and SP. The 1995 regular set has 300 cards, beginning with a 30-card rookie subset; Special Edition is a separate 90-card insert set with its own gold version.

The 1996 regular set also has 300 cards, including 33 Star Rookies. Meet the Stars game pieces were distributed across Upper Deck and Collector’s Choice, so that promotion is not a second base set. The Game Jerseys insert line is a separate part of the product’s history.

For 1997, the 300-card regular issue begins with Star Rookies #1–31 and Star Rookie Flashback #32–41. A Flashback card of an established player should not be recorded as a current-year rookie. Upper Deck Legends and its autographs are separate products from this annual checklist.

1998 Upper Deck and 1999 Upper Deck

These years include rookie-era interest in the 1998 class and its successors. Upper Deck base cards, Encore and other similarly branded products have different checklists. Compare the exact line and card number instead of treating every company-branded rookie as interchangeable.

2000 Upper Deck

The 2000 annual set is distinct from Upper Deck Encore, Victory, Ultimate Victory and Vintage Preview material. That distinction is especially important for Tom Brady searches. A generic “2000 Upper Deck” title should be checked against the actual card before a collection slot is filled.

2001 Upper Deck through 2005 Upper Deck

The 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 releases coexist with autograph, memorabilia and premium company brands. Read the back’s certification wording for any special component. A material swatch should not be attributed to a particular game merely because the card pictures a recognizable uniform.

2006 Upper Deck through 2009 Upper Deck

The requested 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 years complete this annual run. Keep rookies, short prints and inserts separated according to each year’s checklist. The company’s later college-football products are a different scope from these NFL-era annual sets.
