1985 Leaf

The 264-card Canadian issue uses bilingual backs and a smaller selection than Donruss. Canadian Greats at 251 and 252 are Leaf-specific subjects. A Donruss checklist cannot substitute for Leaf's numbering or establish that every American-set card has a Canadian counterpart.

1986 Leaf

The 264-card issue includes Leaf-specific Canadian Greats and a compact Rated Rookies selection. Jose Canseco is absent despite his prominent Donruss card that year. Confirm the Leaf checklist rather than assuming the most familiar Donruss rookies also appear here.

1987 Leaf

The 264-card Canadian set shares Donruss' basic design but uses Leaf branding and bilingual backs. Canadian Greats remains a distinguishing component. Both sides should be photographed when a card's front is easily mistaken for its American counterpart.

1988 Leaf

The 264-card Canadian release includes Canadian Greats of George Bell and Tim Wallach and rookies such as Roberto Alomar and Mark Grace. It closes the documented Canadian-counterpart run before Leaf's later premium relaunch. Preserve the bilingual edition identity in descriptions.

1989 Leaf

A standalone 1989 Leaf baseball base checklist has not been verified for this label. A Leaf company copyright on a Donruss card is not by itself a Leaf product name. Identification requires the actual front branding and complete card number.

1990 Leaf

The relaunched Leaf set contains 528 cards in two equal series and includes Frank Thomas, Sammy Sosa and Larry Walker. It is a separate premium-style product rather than the earlier bilingual Donruss counterpart. Its white-bordered front and silver-toned back aid identification.

1991 Leaf

The 528-card, two-series structure continues, with Gold Leaf Rookies as a separate insert group. Do not merge those inserts with ordinary base rookies merely because the player and year match. Preserve the Gold Leaf Rookies title and numbering.

1992 Leaf

The 528-card issue introduces a full Black Gold parallel. Special cherrywood factory-set packaging does not turn the ordinary base cards inside into Tiffany-style premium-stock parallels. Identify the actual card treatment rather than inferring it from a presentation box.

1993 Leaf

The 550-card set spans two 220-card series and a 110-card Update continuation. City landmarks appear on backs, helping distinguish the design. Frank Thomas autograph content in Update is separate from an ordinary printed name or facsimile signature.

1994 Leaf

The checklist contracts to 440 cards in two series. Marbleized design details and holographic team logos continue the visual identity. Slideshow and other insert groups require their own names; a special insert should not be counted as an alternative base number.

1995 Leaf

The 408-card release uses two equal series and a diamond-shaped player hologram on the front. Hideo Nomo is a rookie subject. A holographic design feature is part of this base issue and does not, by itself, identify a scarce parallel.

1996 Leaf

The 220-card issue is released as one series. Numbered inserts such as Hats Off, Statistical Standouts and Total Bases are separate collecting projects. Their serial stamps identify particular insert versions rather than increasing the size of the base checklist.

1997 Leaf

The 400-card set has two equal series and includes Legacy and Gamers subsets. Jackie Robinson tribute material is another distinct group. A reprint of an earlier Leaf design remains a modern tribute card unless identified as the original issue.

1998 Leaf

The 200-card checklist runs through 201 but omits 42 in tribute to Jackie Robinson. Curtain Calls, Gold Leaf Stars and Gold Leaf Rookies are short-printed subsets. The numbering gap is intentional, so a complete-set audit should not demand a card 42.

1999 Leaf

A standalone 1999 Leaf baseball base issue has not been verified. The late-arriving 1998 Leaf Rookies & Stars product is a possible source of date confusion, but it cannot be substituted without seeing the actual cards. Preserve this owner label as unresolved pending identification.
